ASCN Working Group 6 - Aligning Incentives with Systemic Change is committed to transforming higher education by reshaping institutional cultures to prioritize and reward the continuous improvement of teaching. In 2021, NASEM hosted a National Dialogue on Reforming STEM Teaching Evaluation in Higher Education in collaboration with AAU, APLU, ACSCN, and the TEval Project. Faculty and administrative leaders from varied institutions provided evidence of the need to identify holistic, inclusive models of teaching evaluation in higher education. Traditional faculty-reward structures often favor scholarship over teaching and service. Therefore, our mission is to use a combination of change literature and best practices, to elevate equitable teaching evaluation practices that foster student success, social justice, and increased access for marginalized and underrepresented groups.

This poster represents a summary of our ongoing efforts towards transformational change to continue to build a national dialogue around incentivizing teaching excellence and systemic reform in STEM undergraduate education. A culmination of our work for the past few years will be highlighted including, a Teaching Evaluation Initiative Repository and a Teaching Evaluation Critical Resources Collection. Our recent work focused on dialogues for change, such as fostering resilience in response to the challenges of the "Great Resignation," reframing it as the "Great Resilience," and overcoming resistance to change, exploring why change is necessary and how we can navigate resistance. These dialogues combined book discussions, reflections on context, and a webinar discussion series.
