Ben Weng, Minneapolis College

Since their implementation in 2021, the Minneapolis Math Pathways have reduced or eliminated developmental math prerequisites, increased student interest, improved course success, and provided greater access to college-level math to students of color. In 2023, only 10% of Minneapolis College's math enrollment is developmental. Furthermore, in 2022 over ten percent of all the black students in Minneapolis College passed college-level math courses to fulfill their general education math requirements, compared to three percent in 2010.

It is no easy feat to create such a fundamental change in college math education, as the faculty, the advisors and the administration all have their own practices and ideals. However, they managed to make collaborations and compromises in curriculum, advising, and administrative support. In this presentation, I will talk about the designs and the outcomes of these pathways, the challenges in creating them, and the leadership strategies used to overcome the challenges.
