Adam Grimm holds a PhD and is graduate assistant in the HIgher, Adult, and Lifelong Education (HALE) program in the College of Education at Michigan State University. Adam is currently a member of a 9-person NSF-funded research team exploring the way networks of organizations form and function to pursue change related to STEM undergraduate education. We hope to understand how and why these organizations structure themselves to promote their initiatives and how this might have changed over time and in different contexts. Our study includes a longitudinal, multiple case study of six such networks including: Advanced Technological Education (ATE); Bay View Alliance (BVA); Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL); Network for STEM Education Centers (NSEC); The Partnership for Undergraduate Life Science Educators (PULSE) Fellows Network; and the Reinvention Collaborative (RC). In an era where political and economic forces are emphasizing STEM education, it is important to understand how organizations have aligned within various networks to promote change in undergraduate STEM education. We hope to contribute to the existing work on education networks with our particular focus on networks of organizations to inform future research and policy promoting STEM education or other educational change initiatives at the higher education level.
