Participant Information

Thank you for participating in the 2017 Earth Educators' Rendezvous. Our shared expectations are:

  • we will participate fully in the entire morning workshop for which we registered
  • we will participate fully in any mini-workshop we attend
  • we will move between contributed sessions at the completion of presentations
  • we will be courteous and respectful of others
  • we will aim to allow all to have an opportunity to participate in discussions

Before the Rendezvous

As you prepare for the Rendezvous, take a moment to look over this information

Arriving at the Rendezvous

  • Information about ground transportation from the airport and in and around Albuquerque can be found on the Albuquerque's Ground Transportation website. A taxi from the airport to the University will cost about $15. The Alvarado Transportation Center, located downtown, is Albuquerque's transportation hub, the center of many Albuquerque bus routes and trains for getting around the city. Connections may be made to ABQ Ride, Amtrak, Southwest Chief, Rail Runner Express, and Greyhound Bus. Rapid Ride bus service will take you to the University of New Mexico.
  • Visit UNM Parking and Transportation Services for information on parking at UNM including parking regulations, parking tickets, and Visitor and Event Parking. Parking Services sells weekly permits for $24. Please visit their office on Monday with your vehicle information and a valid photo ID. If you need to park on Sunday, use an unmarked stall in the A lot and you will not be cited on Sunday. For questions about parking you can contact parking services.
  • Registration check in/name badge pickup (you must check in before attending any events, please leave time to check in and walk to your first event)

During the Rendezvous

On Campus Locations

Most events will take place on the University of New Mexico campus in the UNM Student Union with additional events in nearby UNM buildings (click map, right, to enlarge or download UNM Map (Acrobat (PDF) 1.4MB Jun23 17)). A map of the Student Union Building (SUB) is also available.

Connecting to WiFi

Wifi will be available on campus.The Lobo-Guest connection is available to everyone and does not require any passwords to connect and join. This network only allows Web browsing. Users will need to acknowledge UNM Terms of Use before connecting, and will be required to do so every 24 hours for continued use of this service. Many groups will capitalize on being together at the Rendezvous to move their own research forward. View working group schedule.

New to the Rendezvous and looking for lunch/dinner companions? Do you want to follow up with folks following discussions started in your workshop or poster session? Please utilize our ​digital ​message board to continue the conversations and networking.

Interested in getting some exercise at the Rendezvous?

After the Rendezvous

Staying in the area after the Rendezvous? Albuquerque and the surrounding area provide limitless opportunities for fun and relaxation in one of the most beautiful areas of the Southwest. Check out these sites for event calendars, restaurant recommendations, maps, tours, etc.

  • Greater Albuquerque Convention & Visitors Bureau
  • The New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science: Expansive museum featuring stones & gems, dinosaur skeletons & a time travel simulation ride. Admission to the museum will be offered at a discounted rate of $5/person for meeting attendees. This discount will be honored from July 15-July 23. Please show your Rendezvous meeting badge or registration receipt. Tickets to the Dynatheater 3D films and Planetarium can be purchased at regular cost. The museum is open 9-5 every day except Tuesdays.
  • Indian Pueblo Cultural Center: Museum features exhibits on the culture and heritage of the Pueblo Indians of New Mexico
  • National Hispanic Cultural Center: Hosts over 700 music, dance, theatre, film, art, history and literary events every year
  • Petroglyph National Monument: one of the largest petroglyph sites in North America, featuring designs and symbols carved onto volcanic rocks by Native Americans and Spanish settlers 400 to 700 years ago
  • Anderson Abruzzo International Balloon Museum: museum dedicated to the worldwide history, science, and art of all types of ballooning and lighter-than-air flight
  • Explora: All-ages science, tech & art museum with over 250 exploratory exhibits
  • ABQ Bio Park: Enjoy fun, educational experiences at the Zoo, Botanic Garden, Tingley Beach, and Aquarium
  • Sandia Peak Tramway: An aerial tramway stretching from the northeast edge of the city to the crestline of the Sandia Mountains and has the world's third longest single span

  • Santa Fe Tourism: About an hours drive and accessible via the Railrunner
