Conference Overview

THEME: Rowing in the Same Direction: Aligning Change Efforts Across Higher Education

The Accelerating Systemic Change Network (ASCN) and APLU's Network of STEM Education Centers (NSEC) invite you to join us in-person in St. Louis for the 2025 Transforming Institutions Conference. This conference brings together researchers, faculty, STEM education centers, Centers for Teaching and Learning, change agents, administrators, and policymakers to focus on transforming undergraduate education. Transforming Institutions is a meeting for ALL institution types, and we encourage 2-year college faculty and administrators to participate. This conference will address critical questions related to institutional change in higher education and foster connections between researchers and change agents across fields.

We thank NSF and the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) for their support.

Program

The Transforming Institutions Conference will provide a diversity of presentation formats that address important topics in institutional change and transformation. During the conference, we will:

  • connect researchers, change agents, administrators, and policymakers to focus on transforming undergraduate education;
  • create a space wherein participants can see the ways in which their work interacts and overlaps across disciplines;
  • identify and discuss key questions regarding change in higher education;
  • highlight early and mature projects touching on outcomes, processes, and contexts of change, among other themes;
  • encourage team formation and development while considering levels of power and buy-in as needed for change.

The Transforming Institutions Conference brings together these themes into a robust and immersive program with a variety of sessions and formats. All are invited to submit abstracts for presentation and poster sessions. Sign up for the Transforming Institutions Interest List to receive timely updates about registration and program availability.

Expectations

We ask participants to attend the entire conference and to participate fully in the sessions and events. We encourage all participants to create a welcoming and encouraging work environment that honors all levels of experience with institutional change. Visit the Code of Conduct page for more information.

Expectations for Participants in ASCN Activities: In order to provide a productive and safe work environment and foster the free exchange of ideas, discrimination and harassment are prohibited in any ASCN activity. This commitment applies to all participants in all settings and locations in which ASCN committee meetings, workshops, and conferences are conducted where employees, volunteers, sponsors, vendors, and/or guests are present.
